Starting Therapy: What to Expect at Genuine Care Club
Starting Out
Before beginning our intake session, you will complete an intake form. You are in control of how much you choose to share, with minimum requirements being a form of identification, full name, birthdate, and emergency contact information to ensure safety, comply with professional regulations, and maintain accurate client records. Flexible options are available to meet different needs upon request. This form is a space where you can share whatever feels important and any identities you would like to be acknowledged and honoured.
First Sessions: Building Trust
The first few sessions are focused on creating a safe, supportive, and affirming space. Together, we will explore what helps you feel comfortable in therapy and reflect on any past experiences that may not have felt supportive. When you feel ready, you are invited to share more about your story and what you hope to achieve in this space.
Move at Your Own Pace
There is no single "right" way to move through therapy. Some clients prefer open conversation, while others appreciate a clear plan and more structure. Both approaches are welcome. Sessions are shaped to move at a pace that feels right and manageable for you.
Therapy Designed Around You
Therapy is tailored to meet your unique needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. Depending on what feels helpful, different tools may be offered, such as DBT skills for emotional regulation, self-compassion practices, ACT values exploration, narrative work, or approaches that move beyond traditional Western frameworks. Every strategy is chosen collaboratively to support your goals and strengths.
Flexible Options for Comfort and Access
Therapy spaces are designed with flexibility in mind, including options like:
Chat-based sessions for nonverbal clients
Breaks during sessions whenever needed
Welcoming fidgeting, stimming, and sensory supports
Self-scheduling to offer more ease and control
Checking In and Adapting Together
Therapy is a collaborative process. Regular check-ins are part of the work, making sure the approach continues to feel supportive and aligned with what you need. You are welcome to request changes to the pace, style, or focus of sessions at any time, with no need to explain or justify.
